    Many countries

    MoneyGram's Syria pages name National Islamic Bank and alBaraka Bank as payout partners. konto.org's test from Germany found transfers of EUR 1,000 and EUR 5,000 possible.

  2. Look for Syria in the country list. If it is there, try a small transfer to a Syrian bank account.
  3. Find your bank in the list below and choose "Report this bank", or add it if it is missing. Cover account numbers, IBANs and balances in any screenshot.

Sanctions no longer prohibit transfers to Syrian banks: the US ended its Syria sanctions program on 1 July 2025, the EU lifted its economic sanctions in May 2025, and no Syrian bank is on the US, EU or UK sanctions lists. Receiving in Syria

Syrian banks, and whether each says publicly that it receives international transfers. A bank that hasn't said so may still receive them.

Why Syria is missing from many banks

As of 29 October 2026.

Sanctions are no longer the reason

No Syrian bank is on the sanctions lists of the US, the EU, the UK, Canada or Australia, so sending money to one is allowed there. Whether to offer it is now each bank's own decision.

Few routes into Syrian banks

International transfers pass through correspondent banks that hold accounts for the Syrian bank in the currency sent. No Syrian commercial bank has publicly named one for US dollars or euros yet.

Extra checks in the EU

Syria is on the EU's list of high-risk countries for money laundering. That doesn't ban payments to Syria, but EU banks must run extra checks on each one, and some stop offering them. In the UK, these checks have not been mandatory for Syria since 30 June 2026.

No IBAN

Syria doesn't use IBAN, so apps that accept only an IBAN can't take a Syrian account. A transfer needs the bank's SWIFT/BIC code and the account number.

Outdated policies

Some banks' published policies still cite sanctions that no longer apply to Syrian banks.
