High-vote services get prioritized for outreach
Blocked in Syria. Square, the merchant payments and point of sale platform owned by Block, does not operate for Syrian users, consistent with its sibling Cash App and other payment peers. A community volunteer contacted the company in July 2026 citing the lifting of US and EU sanctions. The status is inferred from the outreach and has not yet been directly verified from a Syrian connection.
Contacted Company
A community volunteer emailed Square at privacy@squareup.com requesting that service access be enabled for users in Syria. The email cited the December 2025 US Treasury announcement lifting all Syria sanctions, the OFAC sanctions programs overview, and supporting documentation from unblocksyria.com/...
You can help change this. Syria's political situation has changed—all sanctions have been lifted. Many companies just haven't updated their policies yet. If you work at Square or know someone who does, share our resources with their legal or compliance team. Sometimes all it takes is one person asking the right question.
Tips for advocating: Reach out to legal, compliance, or policy teams. Reference the lifted sanctions. Point to competitors who have already unblocked Syria. Every voice matters.
