- 2026-03-03 — Contacted Company. A community volunteer emailed Meta's privacy team at privacy@fb.com requesting that Facebook restore full access for users in Syria following the OFAC and EU sanctions lift. The email referenced the updated regulatory framework and asked Meta to review its geo-blocking policies for Syrian users.
- 2026-02-21 — Company Responded. A community volunteer contacted Meta support via Messenger and received responses from two separate support agents. Both agents confirmed that Syria has been removed from Meta's internal blocked countries list approximately one week after the end of the conflict. However, they noted that previously restricted accounts have not yet been unrestricted — those accounts still carry their old restrictions. The volunteer also reported inconsistent ad functionality: one ad succeeded while using a VPN, but a subsequent ad was rejected. Payment issues were attributed to the Syrian banking system (Central Bank limitations), not Meta's policies.
