Blocked in Syria, with an Akamai access denied page returned from Syrian connections. A volunteer wrote to HackerRank's support and legal addresses on 27 August 2026; support auto-replied within seconds that it is the candidate help desk, and the legal address has not answered.

- 2026-08-27 — Company Responded. HackerRank replied twenty-two seconds later with an automated acknowledgment from its candidate help desk. The message confirmed the request had been received and was being reviewed by the support team, then explained that this desk answers questions about assessments or interviews with a potential employer, and that questions about certifications, coding challenges and mock interviews should go to a separate community help desk instead. It did not address the country restriction. The reply is an automated routing notice rather than any engagement with the request, and it indicates the address reached is a candidate support queue rather than a legal or compliance route.
- 2026-08-27 — Contacted Company. A community volunteer emailed HackerRank's support and legal teams at support@hackerrank.com and legal@hackerrank.com asking the company to review its country restriction on Syria. The email set out the regulatory position for the company's legal and compliance teams: Syria's designation as a state sponsor of terrorism was rescinded on 24 August 2026, the Caesar Act was repealed on 18 December 2025, the United States sanctions programme was terminated by Executive Order 14312 with the Syrian Sanctions Regulations removed from the Code of Federal Regulations, and the European Union lifted its economic sanctions on 28 May 2025. It also noted that License Exception SPP authorises the export to Syria of items designated EAR99, which covers most commercial software, and asked which regulation the restriction rests on if it remains in place after review. This is the first recorded outreach to HackerRank.
- 2026-05-18 — Investigated. Community testing confirmed that HackerRank is blocked in Syria. Accessing hackerrank.com from a Syrian IP returns an «Access Denied» page served via Akamai's errors.edgesuite.net, indicating a CDN-level region block. The site is unusable without a VPN.
