## About

Cryptocurrency exchange for spot and perpetual futures trading, licensed as a digital asset service provider

## Activity summary

Open to users in Syria. Freedx had listed Syria among the countries whose residents cannot register, and after a volunteer asked for a compliance review it confirmed on 1 September 2026 that Syrian residents can now sign up.

## Community reports

- 2026-09-01 — Fully Unblocked. Freedx agreed. Its support team replied that the team had reviewed the situation around Syria and that residents of Syria can now register on the platform, and thanked the volunteer for sharing the information. A second message from a named representative later the same afternoon added that the company is committed to continuing to evolve in this space. This is a country-level policy change made in response to a single outreach email, and it is exactly what is asked of every company: not an exception to sanctions screening, but a fresh look at whether excluding an entire country is still required. No independent test from a Syrian connection has been run yet, so the record rests on the company's own written confirmation.
- 2026-08-28 — Contacted Company. A community volunteer wrote to Freedx support asking that the country-wide restriction on Syria be reviewed by the appropriate legal or compliance team, noting that Freedx's published restricted-country guidance still listed the Syrian Arab Republic among jurisdictions whose residents cannot register or use the platform. The email set out the regulatory position: comprehensive United States sanctions on Syria ceased to be in effect on 1 July 2025, the Caesar Act was repealed on 18 December 2025, and Syria's designation as a state sponsor of terrorism was rescinded on 24 August 2026, while targeted sanctions and ordinary anti-money-laundering and know-your-customer screening obligations remain. It acknowledged that Freedx is a regulated platform that must apply licensing, screening and risk controls, did not ask for any of those to be removed, and asked only whether excluding Syria as an entire country is still required, pointing to the United States Treasury's own sanctions programme page. An automated reply acknowledged the message outside working hours the same day.

## Context

These are geo-restrictions the companies applied themselves, not filtering by Syrian ISPs and not a legal requirement. US and EU sanctions on Syria were lifted in 2025. See https://unblocksyria.com/llms.txt for the regulatory summary and https://unblocksyria.com/en/about for citations to the specific orders and regulations.
